A female accused with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly left her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.

On Monday, the tribunal was told phone records and data obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and is still open.

'I Don't Want Money'

Another voicemail, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Suppose there is a small chance that I'm her? Then what? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I simply desire to know," she added.

The jury was told that via emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

That day Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I won't give up and I will prove my point."

The court was informed the co-defendant developed a association via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in that area in last December.

Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had contacted via communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period before the visit to that location, the county, in December 2024.

The court heard communications between the two accused, in November 2024, planning trying to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.

"We need to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.

On the evening of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg transmitted a text which stated: "We're currently sitting adjacent to the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to detectives. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."

The case continues.
