19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has won 21 titles at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

But the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early chances in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
