The loved ones of teenagers unaccounted for after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are confronting an agonising period of uncertainty for official news and appealing for any details about their children via social media.

The inferno devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Verified images reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another 119. Authorities said on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with the process still underway to locate the other six.

Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.

Her sibling has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
