The loved ones of teenagers unaccounted for after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are confronting an agonising period of uncertainty for official news and appealing for any details about their children via social media.

The inferno devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Verified images reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another 119. Authorities said on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with the process still underway to locate the other six.

In the meantime, families and friends have been taking to the internet to appeal for information about their loved ones who were in attendance that night.

Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For

The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his family.

The resident of Lutry near the city, informed a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.

"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's horrific," she stated.

She added that some of his friends had been located with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through an absolute nightmare."

The Italy's foreign ministry has said that six of its citizens remain missing.

One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now living in Dubai.

The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who carried with him passion and true sportsmanship."

His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.

Other Cases

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.

"A close friend informed me they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.

One of his teachers stated, "He was known for his good nature and positive demeanor, combined with great maturity. Often offer to help out."

Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.

Her sibling has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.

Officials from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
