A Russian Senior Officer Killed in the Russian Capital Blast, Officials Report.
Investigative Source
A senior Russian army officer has been declared dead following an detonation in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The incident took place on Monday morning when an IED placed beneath a vehicle was set off, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
The committee mentioned that one possible explanation points to the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Scene of the Blast
Teams have been dispatched to the site, which is understood to be in a southern district of the capital.
Accounts state the explosion occurred in a car park close to a residential building.
Series of Assaults
Since the onset of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military officials have been attacked within Moscow.
This latest event echoes other notable incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a bomb concealed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a source from Ukraine earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are never officially confirmed as a matter of standard practice.
The conflict has witnessed covert operations extending into the center of the Russian capital.
The probe into General Sarvarov's death remains ongoing.
